OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee County 4-H Baking Club, the Rolling Pin Rebels, brought home ribbons from the Florida State Fair.

Fourth grader Sophia Ostein won third place in the King Arthur Flour baking competition.

First grader Christian West won third place for his Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies and won Best in Division (6-10 year old youth) for his Cranberry Orange Quick Bread,

Second grader Lynx West, who is not in the 4-H club but is from Okeechobee, won first place in pies and tarts.

The Florida State Fair was held Feb. 6-17 at the State Fairgrounds in Tampa.

Club leader Mandy Main said she started the club in September. They meet on the second Friday of each month at the Okeechobee County Extension Office. The club won’t meet in March because they’ll be busy at the Okeechobee County Fair.

“I'm pretty proud of them,” she said. “Sofia's family doesn't cook and she's never baked before and she got third place! We won 4 ribbons all together, representing Okeechobee!”

The Okeechobee County Fair will be held March 11-16 at the Agri-Civic Center Fairgrounds.

County residents are encouraged to enter their own creations in the Competitive Events. Registration deadline is March 7. For applications, go online to okeechobeecountyfair.com.

Contests include quilting, sewing, knitting, painting, drawing,  photography, wood working, crafts, jewelry making, trash-to-treasure,  duct tape creations, home baking,  canned goods,  horticulture, leather work,  Lego building and more.
