Gove Elementary held annual Spanish Spelling Bee

BELLE GLADE — Gove Elementary held its annual Spelling Bee on March 15. There were fifty-six participating students. The outstanding event was planned and supervised by Mrs. Anna Carrasco, Dual Language Coach.

Sixth grader, Elizabeth Robles is the second runner up.


The students began their journey at the beginning of the year. All students in third through sixth grade were given the opportunity to participate. Students that chose to partake in the event were given a list of words to practice until the day of the event.

Gove Elementary had the honor of having the following judges: Mr. Jose Fred, Palm Beach School District Human Resources, ESOL Coordinator Claudia Gutierrez, fifth grade Spanish teacher Gracie Gonzalez, and Mr. Jose Larrea-Garcia, Professional Development Specialist, Multicultural Education.

Ashley Cruz is the fourth grade winner.


The contest had a total of thirteen rounds after which Ashley Cruz was pronounced the winner. Samantha Garcia was the first runner up and Elizabeth Robles was the second runner up. All participating students earned a small trophy, a certificate and a Spelling Bee brag tag.

Congratulations to the parents and teachers who assisted the participating students in their effort to learn how to spell over a hundred words. Kudos to Mrs. Carrasco and other staff members that helped make this year’s Spanish Spelling Bee a huge success.
