Senior citizens invited to Masquerade Prom

Posted

BELLE GLADE -- Clewiston seniors 65 and older have been invited to join in the Tri City (Belle Glade, South Bay and Pahokee) Masquerade Prom!

A King and Queen from each of the four cities will be crowned June 1 in Pahokee.

The Senior Citizens 2024 Masquerade Prom will be held June 1, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Eddie L. Rhodes Gymnasium in the City of Pahokee Park and Recreation Sports Complex, 360 Begonia Drive, Pahokee. The event is free. Pre-registration is encouraged.

The event is sponsored by KTM and Palm Health/Healthier Glades.

Those intersted may contact Barbara Henry at 863-228-6958.

The concept of the "Tri City Senior Prom" was conceived by Lynette Butts, aiming to provide a special event for seniors residing in various towns around the Lake, including Moore Haven, Canal Point, and Belle Glade.

The inagural event was held at her event hall in Pahokee, situated in the historic O'Say building. During the prom, Lynette paid tribute to the oldest living seniors from different towns like Moore Haven, Clewiston, South Bay, Belle Glade, and Pahokee/Canal Point.

Collaborating with Belle Glade Mayor Steve Wilson for transportation from Belle Glade, and with Mattie Crawford for arrangements for seniors from Pahokee/Canal Point, the event was a success. Willie Wrisper III served as the chauffeur for seniors from South Bay, while Lynette's husband, Bobby Brown, transported seniors from Clewiston and Moore Haven.

The memorable night of the prom, held around May 24, 2014, was filled with dancing and enjoyment for seniors from all around the Lake. Barbara King, who played an active role with the seniors, organized a meeting with Mayor Steve Wilson, Keith Babb, Vice Mayor Wilson, and others, in response to the seniors' inquiries about the next Senior Prom.

Together, they revived the Tri Cities Senior Prom, now including Clewiston seniors, bringing joy to all the seniors who missed out on their high school prom experience. This year, the prom will return to Pahokee, where it originated, and will rotate annually among the three Tri Cities - South Bay, Belle Glade, and Pahokee.
