Summer Camp sign-ups set
OKEECHOBEE — The 2019 Sheriff’s Summer Camp sign-ups will be held on Friday, May 3, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the School Board Operations Center, 938 N.W. 34th St. (behind O.A.A.). Dates for camps are: Youth Camp, June 3-7, for ages eight to 11; and Teen Camp, June 10-14 for ages 12-15. Only a parent or legal guardian may sign up a child.

BUCKHEAD RIDGE — The VFW Post 9528, 29012 S.R. 78 E., will host the following events: On Friday, May 3, the post will serve dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with a menu of boneless ribeye steak, grilled pork tenderloin, fried fish and shrimp and more. There will be music by Crystal from 6 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, May 4, the VFW Riders will serve a full breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and wings and 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit veteran services. Cinco de Mayo BBQ set
OKEECHOBEE — There will be a Cinco de Mayo BBQ on Sunday, May 5, from 2 to 6 p.m. at 131 N.W. 36th St.(across from Circle K on North U.S. 441). There will be a choice of hamburgers, fish sandwiches, or 10 shrimp on a skewer, with sides for a $8 donation. All proceeds go to the Elks National Foundation.

County boards to meet
OKEECHOBEE — The county commissioners from Hendry, Glades, Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties will meet at 6 p.m. on May 7 in the Okeechobee High School Lecture Hall, 2800 U.S. 441 N., to discuss Lake Okeechobee and other matters of mutual interest. The meeting will be open to the public.
Legion to host events

Second St., will host the following events: On Friday, May 3, there will be karaoke and a fish fry from 5 to 8 p.m. with your choice of fish, shrimp or chicken in a basket for $6 or on a salad for $7. “Frozen” to be performed
OKEECHOBEE — The Osceola Middle School Drama Club will be presenting its rendition of Disney’s “Frozen” beginning Thursday, May 9, with repeat performances on May 10, and 11, at 7 p.m. It will be held in the school gymnasium, 825 S.W. 28th St., and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. All tickets are $7 and there is reserved seating.

OKEECHOBEE — Fill a bag to help feed families on Saturday, May 11. Bag healthy nonperishable food items and place by your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up and deliver to food banks and pantries in your community. Donate items such as pasta, cereal, oatmeal, canola oil, peanut butter and canned goods including beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, tuna in water, meat and sauce. Avoid glass containers.

The Inner Truth Project will hold a support group for survivors of sexual trauma on the second Monday of each month starting May 13 at Our Village Okeechobee, 1703 S.W.
