City of Clewiston Ordinance
Sec. 110-2. - Definitions and construction.
Swimming pool means a portable pool or permanent structure that contains a body of water 18 inches or more in depth of 250 square feet or more of water surface area and intended for recreational purposes, including a wading pool. The term “swimming pool” excludes an ornamental reflecting pool, fish pond, or other type of pool, regardless of size, unless located and designed so as to create a hazard or be used for swimming or wading.

Sec. 110-524. - Fences, walls and hedges.
(18) Swimming pool enclosures. All swimming pools must be within a screened cage, or shall be enclosed on all open sides by a fence which is a minimum of four feet above the existing ground grade and a maximum of six feet above the existing ground grade. All gates which are part of a pool fence or screening cage must have safety locks.

Public Works Director Sean Scheffler reports:
If you have any recreational needs or questions, please drop by city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 863-983-1484.
• NOTICE: Residents offering debris for pick up must make sure nothing is longer than six feet. The Transfer Station will no longer take material longer than that. Drivers have been instructed to “Yellow Tag” debris that needs to be cut shorter.
• Hendry County Waste Management Toxic Round Up was held on Saturday, May 4, at the County Road and Bridge facility located at 1381 Evercane Road from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a free service. Residential hazardous waste only. No commercial waste accepted.
• Mosquito Control: Trap counts are averaging around 25 throughout town. The Golf Course remains the only location with 100 in the traps.
Police Chief Aaron Angell reports:
The following is a brief synopsis of activity over the course of the past week.
• Officers made a total of six arrests.
• Officers responded to 369 calls for service (includes officer-initiated activity); responded to and investigated five traffic crashes; and conducted 117 business and 77 residential security checks.

Criminal activity continues to trend down for the second month in a row even though we experienced a slight increase in the number of burglaries during the month of April.
During the month of April, only thirty-nine part one offenses were reported.
There has been an increase in the number of complaints regarding juveniles that are being allowed to operate golf carts. Your police department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that only licensed drivers may operate golf carts on the roadways in Clewiston and that these golf carts must have the required safety equipment installed as outlined in section seventy of the City of Clewiston Code of Ordinances.
