OKEECHOBEE -- At a ceremony held on May 9 in the Okeechobee High School gym, eight students from OHS signed on to continue playing their respective sport at the college level.

The Brahman football team led the school with three of its athletes signing on to play in college. Andrew Bates signed on to play at Webber International in Florida, Blaine Keathley signed on to play at Warner University in Florida, and Jalen Pryor signed on to play at St. Thomas University in Florida. Interestingly, all three of those teams are scheduled to face each other next year. It should be fun to see which Brahman can come back to Okeechobee during Christmas break with the most bragging rights.

Alexandrea Fulford had to miss the initial signing ceremony on May 9, but was able to sign her letter of intent a few days later in a separate ceremony. Special to the Lake Okeechobee News/OHS.

Sumer Baker has signed with Webber International in Florida to play softball. While Alexandrea Fulford has signed with LaGrange College in Georgia to play softball as well.

Ashton English, one of the top scorers from the Lady Brahman soccer team this year, signed on to play at Daytona State College in Florida. While on the boys soccer team, goalkeeper David Solorzano signed on to play at Bethel College in Florida.

Finally, from the Brahmans baseball team, Deven Tedders signed on to play at South Florida State College.

The eight Brahmans join others who have already signed earlier this year.

OHS basketball player Jemal Davis signed on to play at Warner University in Florida back in November of 2018 shortly before his senior season at OHS. Davis and the Brahmans would go on to win the program’s first basketball district championship in 28 years.

Former Okeechobee Brahman football player Evan Neal made the decision to announce his college pick in his hometown back in December 2018. Neal played his freshman year at Okeechobee before being offered the opportunity to play at IMG Academy. Although he took advantage of that opportunity, Neal still saw Okeechobee as his hometown. Evan announced that he would play football at the University of Alabama during a signing ceremony in the OHS gym that was broadcast on ESPN.
