HRMC secures over $1.4 million in state grants

Posted

CLEWISTON — Hendry Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is entering the third year of its Rural Infrastructure Grant, with a total award of $1,455,606.67 received from the State of Florida. These grant funds allow HRMC to make critical improvements to aging infrastructure that would have otherwise relied on Ad Valorem tax dollars, helping to reduce the financial burden on local taxpayers.

“Securing these funds means we can continue strengthening healthcare access in our community without placing additional costs on our residents,” said David Theroux, CEO “We are grateful for the state’s support in ensuring our facilities remain safe, resilient, and ready to serve.”

Infrastructure improvements to date

Through the Rural Infrastructure Grant, HRMC has completed several key projects, including:

• Installation of new roofing for clinics, medical office buildings, and the hospital.

• Chiller replacement to enhance energy efficiency and comfort.
• Addition of storm shutters to safeguard facilities during hurricane season.
• Parking lot expansion, sealing, and repaving to improve patient and visitor access.
• Cooling tower replacement to support essential hospital operations.
• Renovations of employee housing (duplexes) to aid in staff recruitment and retention.
• Completion of a water softener project to improve facility operations and equipment longevity.

A lasting investment in rural healthcare

These improvements not only enhance HRMC’s ability to deliver high-quality care but also ensure that the hospital remains a strong and sustainable resource for Hendry County.

“Investments like these reflect a true partnership between the state and our local community,” added Troy Eller, CFO, “Every dollar helps us protect healthcare access close to home while reducing reliance on local tax dollars.”
