CLEWISTON — Joined by friends, family members, and neighbors, one of Clewiston’s most dedicated community volunteers, Libby Williams, was celebrated on March 12 at a breakfast honoring her as the 2025 Clewiston Sugar Festival Honoree. Williams is a lifelong resident of Clewiston and a former educator at Clewiston High School.

“Every year, we select an honoree with a record of leadership to our community and the local farming region,” said Julia duPlooy, president of the Clewiston Sugar Festival Committee. “Without ever seeking credit, Libby Williams has devoted countless hours to serving our community, helping to beautify our local civic park and make Clewiston a better place to live. For these reasons, she is extremely deserving of the 2025 Clewiston Sugar Festival Honoree Award.”

Williams was nominated by Clewiston City Commissioner Mali Gardner. In her nomination letter, Gardner wrote, “I treasure the experience of growing up in Clewiston and some of my fondest memories are of Libby - her relentless energy, her abounding love and her steadfast commitment to faith, family and community have been an inspiration to many who have been blessed with her friendship.” “I believe this committee has also seen firsthand her dedication and tireless efforts year-in and year-out that have helped to create many wonderful memories for those who live here or for those visiting our town,” continued Gardner.

Born and raised in Clewiston, Williams has spent her life raising children and serving the community as a volunteer. After retiring from Clewiston High School in 2018, where she served as a data systems specialist, Williams has made civic improvement a focus of her time. Every holiday season, Williams dedicates time to decorate the Clewiston Civic Park for visitors to enjoy. Over the past few years, the park’s holiday lights, decorations and music have become a draw for hundreds of locals and visitors to America’s Sweetest Town during the holiday months.

Williams is married to her devoted husband, Danny Williams, who serves as the Clewiston City Manager. She has two children, Kameron and Chase, and three grandchildren, Brooks, Emerson, and Elias.
