Medicare Fraud Prevention Week runs the week of June 5

Everyone can prevent medicare fraud

FORT MYERS — Fraud costs Medicare an estimated $60 billion annually, impacting beneficiaries through time loss, stress, medical identity theft, and even health risks. Families, friends, and caregivers also bear the burden, dealing with worry and lost work while helping loved ones recover from fraud.

“Medicare fraud has a devastating impact on both beneficiaries and the Medicare program,” said Camilita Aldridge, Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program Manager. “Our mission is to teach individuals how to protect themselves from Medicare fraud. By preventing it from happening, we safeguard individuals and ensure the longevity of the Medicare program for future generations.”

Medicare Fraud Prevention Week takes place the week of June 5, chosen because most people become eligible for Medicare when they turn 65. The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) and its partners will host various events to educate the public on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from Medicare fraud. Learn more about the initiative at www.smpresource.org.

As part of the week’s activities, join us on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, for a free online event titled “Actions Everyone Can Take” to prevent, detect, and report Medicare fraud. Empower yourself to be scam-smart, register in advance at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_dWS8WjPcR_OK7RguA4Sg2A#/registration
