Sharon Elizabeth (Ammons) Robert-son passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026 after a battle with liver cancer. She was born in Okeechobee, Florida on January 24, 1952 to Amy Lunsford and James Ammons. She grew up in Okeechobee, Florida with her parents and two siblings, Mary and KJ. Sharon graduated from Okeechobee High School in 1970. She married Donnie Robertson in October 1971 and raised her two children, Don-na and Dale. She was a proud mother and took great joy in watching her children grow and become accomplished adults. Sharon was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Okeechobee. Sharon was a lifelong resident of Okeechobee. She worked different jobs throughout her younger years including at a movie theatre and a real estate office. In 1984, Sharon became the Deputy Clerk and she embarked on a successful career in public service. In 1989, she was promoted to Supervisor of the criminal division. In the 1990s, she served in supervisory roles in various departments before she was appointed as Okeechobee County Clerk of Court & Comptroller in 1995. Although never a politician, in 1997, Sharon was elected and held office until she retired in 2020. She was proud to serve the people of Okeechobee County and loved her job and her committed staff whom she considered her friends. Sharon oversaw the construction of the new courthouse from inception to completion in 2005. The accomplishment she was most proud of was working with the US Department of State for two years to establish Okeechobee as a passport office. She was also proud of the technologies she instituted through the years as it allowed her and her office to provide exemplary customer service even during the COVID pandemic. Sharon met her life partner, Rick Wilhelm in 2005. Their relationship was filled with love and lots of humor. She and Rick enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, being with nature, and spending time with their families. With great joy, Sharon loved hosting “Okeechobee Christmas” for her and Rick's blended families. They traveled frequently to Saratoga Springs, New York, the Florida coasts, or to Orlando to spend time with their grandchildren.
To her twelve grandchildren, Sharon was affectionately known as “Grammy” or “Grammy Sharon”. Sharon was an involved grandmother and she spent time with her grandchildren, even texting with them to stay connected. She always encouraged them to work hard in school and she loved watching them in all their various activities. If she could help it, Sharon never missed a game, a birthday, or a school function. Sharon loved all things nature. Her green thumb was legendary and she had tremendous pride for the beauty she created in her yard. Sharon loved all creatures and took great care to never do any harm. She was a Snow White of sorts feeding birds, squirrels, deer, raccoons, and so many more. Her beloved dogs, Maggie, Jax, and Axel were her pride and joy and also Winston, who undoubtedly was the first to greet her at the gates. Sharon is survived by her life partner, Rick Wilhelm; daughter, Donna Howard and husband, Delbert Howard; son, Dale Robertson and wife, Amy Robertson; sons and daughters-in-law, Kris and Stephanie Wilhelm, Lindsay Wilhelm and George Iparraguirre, and Taylor Wilhelm and partner Courtney Hubbell; eleven grandchildren, Dylan DaSilva, Ella Riviezzo, Zachary Robertson, Alyssa Root, Jon Walborn, Ryan Wilhelm, Anna Wilhelm, Serena Iparraguirre, Sierra Iparraguirre, Sayla Iparraguirre, and Alice Wilhelm and predeceased by Trey Howard; sister, Mary Wall and husband Bill Wall; brother, KJ Ammons and wife Arlene Ammons; very dear friends Gigi Bennett, Celeste Watford, Robbin Dawson, and Danielle Craig; as well as various nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
