50 Years of Changing Lives
Posted
Special to the Immokalee Bulletin
Guadalupe Social Services (GSS) is joining its parent organization, Catholic Chariities, Diocese of Venice in celebrating 50 years of changing lives in Collier County, including 38 years in Immokalee.
On Saturday, December 8, GSS will host a brunch and program for donors and others who have supported the work of Catholic Charities throughout Collier Country and especially in Immokalee. With the aid of many supporters offering time, talent and treasure, Guadalupe Social Services is able to provide assistance to people in need in Immokalee. GSS offers a hot meal five days a week, showers for the homeless, a food pantry, clothing donations, and limited financial assistance with rent and utilities. There is also an active and busy Immigration program.
Empowering people who are poor in Immokalee is also part of Guadalupe Social Service mission. Currently an Immigration and Refugee Women’s Sewing Collaborative has been started, and an English School for Women has an active registration of 20+ women.
Catholic Charities was founded almost 100 years ago to serve people in need and to change the course of poverty throughout the United States by working in solidarity with Catholics all over the nation. In 1929, at the time of the great depression, Catholic Charities took on an advocacy role, influencing passage of key economic, security, labor and public housing legislation. Today, Catholic Charities USA is active in disaster response and in reducing poverty throughout America.
Catholic Charities Collier County also has branches in Naples
