Agriculture Unit deputies responded to a pasture off State Road 29 on Thursday after the remains of a horse were found.

Detectives said someone entered the fenced pasture sometime between noon Tuesday and 8 a.m. Thursday and led the horse to a neighboring pasture where they butchered the animal. Deputies said it appears the suspect or suspects were after the horse’s meat based upon the remains left at the scene.

An investigation continues.
