Gov. Ron DeSantis recently signed the Florida Legislature-approved 2019 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday to help Florida residents purchase items related to disaster preparedness without having to pay sales tax. The sales tax holiday runs from Friday, May 31, through Thursday, June 6.

Collier County Emergency Management Services urges every resident to take advantage of this sales tax holiday to help supply a 72-hour disaster survival kit. Disaster survival kits should include a minimum of a three-day supply of water, food, medications and other necessities for each person and pet.

Necessary disaster survival kit supplies eligible for the sales tax holiday include reusable ice packs, flashlights, fuel containers, batteries, radios, and portable generators.

At a minimum, your 72-hour disaster survival kit should contain enough food, water (at least three gallons per person), medications, blankets and pillows, cash, cell phone chargers, clothing, first aid kit, flashlight and batteries, keys, mosquito spray, a battery-operated NOAA weather radio, toiletries, toys, tools, important documents and pet care items for each person and pet for a minimum of three days.
