The Immokalee Ministerial Alliance, with the leadership of Bethel Assembly of God Church, One By One Leadership Foundation, the Unmet Needs Coalition, several local dedicated pastors and a number of national organizations are providing for ongoing needs of the Immokalee community after Hurricane Irma. Housed next to the Salvation Army Center, and in the unit on Commerce Avenue previously accommodating the IHOPE Distribution Center is the new Benison Distribution Center. Steps are currently being taken to obtain federal and state recognition as a 501 C 3 operation. Truckloads of goods that include personal hygiene products, diapers, baby food, non-perishable food items-both canned and boxed, cleaning supplies, and a recent supply of uniform clothing, shoes and boots are available for pick up by local non-profit organizations and churches for them to distribute to their needy clientele in Immokalee. Plans are underway to obtain the donations and support of several major building supply companies. All goods are available free of charge, although a monthly fee is in the planning stages for organizations and member churches to help support the cost of operating the not-for-profit ministry. World Vision is one of the main contributors at present…they are additionally providing-free-several semi loads of roofing shingles to be provided for the repair of many of the homes in Farm Worker Village. Benison is open, not for individuals, but rather for churches and other local organizations like RCMA and PACE to come, pick up supplies and then distribute to those in their organizations who have specific needs. Benison, in addition to looking for suppliers, has a number of needs including volunteers to sort and box goods, equipment, like shelving, a forklift, and donations to help cover the monthly rent, electricity and managerial costs.
