In recognition of Sunshine Week, the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers pledge their continued support of open government and the accountable, transparent processes used in their offices statewide. Florida’s Sunshine Laws are among the strongest in the nation, giving every citizen access to the information necessary for participating in the democratic process. These laws protect a citizen’s right to know how government operates, making information such as public events, government meeting minutes, and court proceedings available to all. Our recognition of Sunshine Week serves to reaffirm the commitment we have to uphold open government in all of Florida’s 67 counties and defend each citizen’s right to know. Clerks and Comptrollers not only provide access to financial information and official records, but also perform audits to ensure that tax dollars are being used correctly to guarantee efficiency, transparency, and oversight of government. They also have an integral role in public safety through the prompt transmission of criminal justice information and court-related mental health records required for background checks and weapon permitting. The Collier County Clerk’s office continuously strives to function as transparently as possible, and one recent example of this is the publishing of all Disbursement Reports on www.Collierclerk.com under Finance. During Sunshine Week, March 12-18, the Collier County Clerk’s office will continue our effort to provide more readily accessible information to the public by debuting the first phase of our updated website, www.Collierclerk.com and by continuing our ongoing work in creating multiple reports and forms which the public will be able to access remotely from www.CollierClerk.com. The website is now available in multiple languages to better serve our community.
