Those who knew Terry knew he was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He loved the fire service and called Immokalee Fire Control District his home. Terry joined the department in 1990 and honorably retired in 2011 when the department was facing a financial crisis. As fellow firefighters were facing layoffs, Terry voluntarily retired in order to help save firefighter positions. He later served as Fire Commissioner from 2012 through 2015 and worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Felda Fire Department. When he wasn’t busy working at the fire department, folks often times saw him around town clearing land or conducting controlled burns. Interim Chief Michael Choate said that Terry worked for over 20 years out of Station 31 and that “This was his house!” It’s only fitting that the shadow box be displayed in the station where his brothers continue to work hard for the communities of Immokalee and Ave Maria.
