Twelve Immokalee Firefighters were honored with Phoenix Awards last week by Collier County EMS. The Phoenix Award is generally presented to first responders who resuscitate patients in cardiac arrest. According to the American Heart Association, of the approximate 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in 2016, only 12 percent survived thanks to the help of bystanders and first responders. Many of the fire departments in Collier County offer CPR courses for the general public. For more information on the course provided by the Immokalee Fire Control District, call 239-657-2111.
