The day is Monday, August 3rd, and the staff of Immokalee High School is off to a great start getting its students ready for the 2015-16 school year. During the summer the football team has been actively involved in conditioning and weight-training and non-contact drills, but today they got their official start at practice with pads, preparing for their first district foe, Gulfcoast High School on Friday, August 21st, under the direction of first-year head coach Dale More. The spirit is high in spite of losing several qualitiy starters to graduation, with nearly 120 freshmen, varsity and junior varsity players already for the sweat and grind of another football season this fall. Though losing a number of quality starters to graduation, the coaches are looking forward to an outstanding group from the undefeated freshman team last year. Band director, Brandon Milhoan, and his assistant Becca Perez have been working with the band students for the past two weeks and are excited about the prospects of over 100 band and flagline members. While leaders have been working the past two weeks, with the freshman members joining a week ago, this Monday witnessed all the students preparing for their marching band season. The public is invited this Saturday to watch their premier band camp performance at Noon at the high school practice field. This year’s musical theme will be piano jazz artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Harry Connick, Jr. and others.
