Immokalee firefighters, who are now part of the North Collier Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Local 2297, delivered a Thanksgiving Day meal to one local family who recently faced an insurmountable tragedy. On October 7, 6-year old Luis Reynosa was hit and killed as he walked to the school bus stop near Davenport’s Trailer Park with his mom Magdalena Fransisco. Armando Negrin, Public Information Officer with the Immokalee Fire Control District said that he was one of the first responding units to arrive on scene. “Events like this are tragic for the whole crew” Negrin said. Lt. Bryan Horbal worked closely with the Northside Naples Kiwanis and Danny Campos, President of the Immokalee Chapter of the Kiwanis to help make this year’s donation to a family in need a special one. “The family was given a turkey, all of the side dishes for a Thanksgiving meal, as well as other common items to help get the family through.” Fransisco who is now living with family across town, said that she and her children Andres, Celia, Vibiana, and Alex are thankful for the gesture that firefighters have shown her family. Lt. Horbal went on to say that “We recognize there are so many families in need in the Immokalee area. Our goal is to find that one family that’s not only in need, but has been impacted by a loss or tragedy, and show them that we care and that we are here for them.” Efforts like this are not financially supported by tax dollars, but rather by the firefighters and the Kiwanis.
