Immokalee Jamboree was a success

Saturday, March 10, kicked off the annual Immokalee Jamboree. The event started with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the 4H club and the Immokalee Livestock Show. By 9:30 over 200 cattle were led down Main Street by over 30 ranchers. Every several yards, the cattle would stop and the dogs would run around getting the cattle to move in a circle. After a few minutes, the dogs barked and ran around the cattle in the opposite direction, and the herd moved in reverse. The dogs were also there to keep the cattle in their formation. This event was held to bring out the pioneer in everyone while celebrating Immokalee’s rich agricultural history. The cattle were led to Robert’s Ranch, previously a farmstead but is now a registered on the National Register of Historic Places. On the site of the Roberts Ranch, is the Immokalee Pioneer Museum, which has several artifacts and pictures of Immokalee’s past. Besides offering various places to purchase food and drink, from various venders, Robert’s Ranch was full of events including storytelling, rope and whip demonstrations, and alligator wrestling. During these events music filled the air as families watched and got to participate in a petting zoo, different games, and crafts.
