Gabaud was reported missing by family members on December 21, 2011. He was 42 years old at the time. His roommate told deputies that Gabaud had moved out of their residence at 306 Adams Avenue W. in early December. The roommate told deputies that Gabaud took some of his clothing and all of his toiletries when he left. Deputies did observe some mail and tools belonging to Gabaud at the residence when they interviewed the roommate, but his toiletries and clothing were not there. Gabaud’s family members told deputies he was a healthy adult who took no medications and had not expressed a desire to harm himself. Detectives entered Gabaud in state and nationwide missing person databases, they conducted a background check and contacted Gabaud’s son and obtained DNA from him. No leads into his whereabouts were discovered until his remains were discovered earlier this month. An investigation continues. There were no outwardly visible signs of trauma to the remains and the Collier County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause and manner of death.
