Indians Win 4th Consecutive Soccer District Championship

Posted
Last Friday night the Indians redeemed themselves not only beating Lely High School 4-0, the only school that had beaten them during the regular season but it also gave them their 4th Consecutive District Title. They will face Mariner High School on Wednesday February 1st in the Regional Quarter Finals at home. Game time will be 7pm. This is the identical scenario as last year when the Indians faced Mariner in the Regional Quarter Finals. We hope that you can make the time and come to support the boys. I remember when I first came to Immokalee in 1993 and started to volunteer my time training the goalkeepers, Coach Damas was a freshman on that team. I remember vividly the boys coming to the games carrying their soccer shoes, if they had them, in Winn Dixie plastic bags. I also remember Coach Damas giving up his shoes to some of the juniors and seniors so that they could play because they didn’t have shoes. Well, times have changed. Immokalee High School is no longer the team that everybody wants to play because they need a win, as a matter of fact, some schools don’t want to play us anymore because they know they will leave town with a loss. Six straight years in the District Finals, five appearances in the Regional Finals with two Regional Championships and two appearances in the Final 4. Not bad at all for our little town of Immokalee. All of this success has not come without work, dedication and sacrifice. Countless hours of practice, preparation, the dedication of the coaching staff and the support of our school administration is what make this happen. Our boys are talented players, but as teenagers that they are they bring a different challenge to the field every day. I must say that when they support each other which is most of the time, they are very tough to beat. Many of these boys have been playing together in club soccer for many years and they have developed a very strong bond. The new ones in the program just follow that chemistry. We are very proud of their accomplishments over the years and we will work hard over the next few weeks to make another appearance in the State Final 4 and hopefully bring the State Championship to Immokalee. To all the boys, our coaches and faithful supporters, CONGRATULATIONS.
