Each year, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office conducts a memorial service and candlelight vigil honoring local deputies who have died in the line of duty. This year’s vigil will take place Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m., during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. The event will take place at the East Naples United Methodist Church, 2701 Airport-Pulling Road S. Members of local agencies including the CCSO, Naples Police Department and Marco Island Police Department will be in attendance, and the event is open to the public. National Law Enforcement Memorial Week is a time set aside nationwide to remember law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The event will begin with the presentation of the colors by the CCSO, Naples Police Department and Marco Island Police Department honor guards with the National Anthem sung by Cpl. Sylee Gibson. Sheriff Kevin Rambosk will then introduce the introduce the NAACP Collier County Branch Spiritual Aims Committee representatives, who will present a memorial wreath, read the NAACP Law Enforcement Memorial Resolution and lead attendees in prayer. Our guest speaker during the event is Patrick O’Connor. Mr. O’Connor is a longtime member of the Collier County 100 Club, an organization that provides financial assistance to the families of fallen first responders. He is a former president and current vice president of the 100 Club. He was recognized by the Naples Daily News as the 2016 Outstanding Citizen of the Year for his philanthropic work. Mr. O’Connor is also chairperson of the “Do The Right Thing” program, which recognizes the good deeds of local students in the city of Naples. He frequently volunteers as a guardian for the Collier County Honor Flight. Members of the Harp and Thistle Pipe Band will perform Amazing Grace before the lighting of the memorial candles. At this time, family members of our fallen officers may step forward to light a candle and place flowers on the table in honor of their loved ones. Taps will be played by Deputy Stephan Leoni , the Benediction will be delivered by Chaplain Eric Housler.
