NFL Flag League Begins Their Season

It’s that time! Time for the NFL Flag league to start in Immokalee. (Submitted photo/Lewis Perkins)[/caption] On Saturday December 16, the Fellowship Sports Ministry from the First Baptist Church of Immokalee started its first flag football practice of the season. Under the guidance of head coach Israel Gallegos, who guided the Immokalee Seminoles to a perfect season, players from area elementary and middle schools learned the fundamentals of the game by running various drills and developing new skills. Immokalee’s flag football league is a part of NFL Flag, which has several co-ed flag football leagues throughout the country. NFL Flag was designed to encourage children ages 5 – 17 to become physically active in a non-contact sport. NFL Flag is also an opportunity for students to get more time on the field than if they played contact football. In January, in addition to their practices, Fellowship Sports Ministry will be offering a football camp on Wednesdays. Additionally, the First Baptist Church of Immokalee will offer a family dinner before practice and a Bible study for parents while their children are learning new skills. Any football fan is encouraged to come out to the Immokalee High School on Saturdays beginning January 6, and cheer for the youth of the community.
