“Reach Immokalee” inspires the Community

On Saturday, July 28, dozens of people flocked to the Immokalee Community Center for free food, games for children, and a chance to win prizes. The lines to the food seemed endless, but the line for the popcorn and snow cones were constantly filled. However, “Reach Immokalee” was more than just a social gathering, it was a place where the community got to get together to worship and ask God to pour out His blessings on Immokalee. The event’s sponsors all wore shirts proclaiming John 3:3: “… no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” This references the teachings of Jesus that said that everyone must be born of the spirit. For the first hour, the rain held off, but even after the skies turned dark and produced a heavy down pour, the celebration continued. Live music overpowered the rain and thunder as the lightening provided visual effects. The community members watched from under a pavilion. However, the pouring rains did not stop the event’s sponsors, Rooted Outreach Ministries, Fellowship Church of Immokalee, and Domingo Gasper from huddling in prayer while the music played. Although Fellowship Church and Domingo are local, Rooted Outreach Ministries came all the way from Polk County to help with the success of this event. A few lucky kids walked away with new bikes, and some adults were lucky enough to win gift cards, and one person won a television. Everyone enjoyed the food and other festivities. However, the community took away a lot more than physical items. The preaching and music spread the spirit of God to everyone that attended this event. The sponsors are a true inspiration to the Community by meeting physical and spiritual needs of Immokalee citizens.
