For the third year in a row, several organizations came together to provide area residents with turkeys and side fixings in hopes of making Thanksgiving Day special for those who might otherwise go without. Tom Powers with Vital Flight, Flightline Drug Testing and Turkeys Take Flight, worked closely with staff from the RCMA and the Rotary Club to provide an estimated 250 turkeys and fixings to help ensure that between 3,500 and 4,000 people are fed this holiday season. Residents lined up to watch the airplane, a DC-3 that flew missions during World War II and carried food and supplies in the Berlin Airlift, make yet another landing at the Immokalee Regional Airport. Firefighters with the Immokalee Fire Control District showed their support by showering the DC-3 upon it’s arrival with a traditional water salute. After which, firefighters joined forces with representatives from the other organizations to help unload box after box from the DC-3. Powers said that all of the food provided was made possible through a collaborative effort from the companies he’s affiliated with along with donations made to the Turkeys Take Flight program.
