Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said that 38-year old Javier Martinez of Immokalee was driving north on State Road 29 Friday, December 1, 2017 in a silver 2013 Chevrolet Silverado when he attempted to make a left turn onto State Road 82. Martinez made a left into the path of a silver 2004 BMW 325i traveling south on State Road 29 driven by 36-year old Joseph Martinez of Moorehaven. The front of the BMW became lodged under the Silverado. It took first responders over an hour to safely remove one occupant in the BMW. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, but the driver and passenger of the BMW were flown to Lee Memorial Hospital by helicopter given the severity of their injuries. According to FHP, alcohol was not a factor in the crash. FHP cited Martinez for failing to yield the right-of-way.
