A worker unashamed ...

Reflections from the Pulpit

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – (2 Timothy 2:15)

Sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others is challenging if we are not practicing the teachings ourselves. If I talk about God’s word but do not live by it, others may easily notice my hypocrisy.

Is it evident to others, through your actions and way of life, that you are a Christ follower, or do you blend in with the “world?”

To be “approved” to God does not mean you are perfect, or you are without sin, but it will mean there will be fruit (evidence) in your life which is “approving” to God.

The “work” of the ministry is the calling God has on your life to fulfill His purpose in your life. Our calling is to believe on the Son of God, Jesus Christ, for our salvation and to share that truth with others. This can only be done when we surrender our will for His and submit and obey the word of God.

Are there areas of your life that would cause you to be ashamed of sharing the gospel with others or cause others to stumble because of your “lifestyle” choices?

Obedience begins when we humbly divide the word of truth in our own lives first. Before we can ever disciple others by the word of God, we must learn from the Teacher, Himself, and live out the word of God and experience His truth firsthand. It is when we strive to be obedient to God that we present ourselves approved by God.

This week, I challenge you to examine your life and see if there is “any wicked way in me and lead me in the way of everlasting” (Psalms 139:24). Only then will we see the word of God begin to reside in our lives and the “evidence” be known to all.

“Until Christ is formed in you…” – Galatians 4:19
