After pleading no contest to dealing in stolen property, he was sentenced to probation

Posted

OKEECHOBEE  -- Marco Swaby was sentenced to two years probation after pleading no contest to two charges of dealing in stolen property and one count uttering a false instrument. In January 2020, Swaby was arrested in Collier County on an Okeechobee County warrant. He was originally charged with two counts grand theft and organized fraud as well, but those charges were later dropped.

The charges stemmed from a complaint by a local business. On August 29, 2019, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Quintin Speed was dispatched to the business after a complaint of fraudulent transactions. The owner of the business told him a man named David Taggert had contacted him in an attempt to buy tires. The man, later identified as Swaby, presented a fake ID and several credit cards in that name. Initially, the credit cards seemed to allow the transactions, so Swaby purchased eight tires and loaded them on to a U Haul truck. Swaby told the owner he gets paid to pick up tires and bring them to Miami.

After Swaby left, the business realized the credit card transactions were not actually going through.

Two other local businesses claimed Swaby tried to buy tires from them as well.

When Swaby was stopped by law enforcement, he gave them a license in the name of Leandro Dominiquez, but this license was later found to be forged.
