Annual Torch Run benefits Special Olympics

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee law enforcement officers began participating in the torch run in 2010, raising funds for Special Olympics athletes.  All profits from the endeavor are donated to this well-known organization.

The run begins at the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office and travels to the Publix Shopping Center where runners are joined by Special Olympic athletes. The athletes complete the run and are treated to a BBQ lunch.

Volunteers prepare and serve the meals which are sold as an additional fundraiser for Special Olympics. As usual, the lunch was completely sold out.

T-shirts were also sold, and as of Friday afternoon, only a few shirts were left, size 4xl.
