Want a little autumn in your August? You’re in luck. Starbucks said Monday that its Pumpkin Spice Latte will return to store menus in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 26. The Pumpkin Spice Latte is Starbucks’ most popular seasonal beverage, with hundreds of millions sold since its launch in 2003. It’s also produced a host of imitations; Dunkin’ introduced pumpkin-flavored drinks in 2007, while McDonald’s brought them to its menu in 2013. The latte is a reliable booster of traffic to stores. According to Placer.ai, Starbucks' U.S. store traffic rose 24% last year on Aug. 22, when the PSL went on sale.

A tech company CEO has resigned after controversy over a video captured on the big screen at a Coldplay concert. Andy Byron resigned from his job as CEO of Astronomer Inc., according to a statement posted on LinkedIn by the company Saturday. “Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,” the company said in its post on LinkedIn. The move comes a day after the company said that Byron had been placed on leave and the board of directors had launched a formal investigation into the incident, which went viral.
Ole Miss football player Corey Adams is killed in Tennessee shooting
Authorities say an Ole Miss freshman football player has been killed in a shooting in Tennessee. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement officials found 18-year-old Corey Adams with a gunshot wound late Saturday in a vehicle in Cordova on the outskirts of Memphis. Four other unidentified men were injured in the shooting. Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide. Adams, a New Orleans native, had been a highly touted defensive lineman. The football program at the University of Mississippi says in a social media post it is “devastated” to learn of Adams' death.
‘Superman’ flexes its might in second weekend with $57.3 million
NEW YORK (AP) — James Gunn’s “Superman” continues to top the box office charts in its second weekend in theaters. According to studio estimates Sunday, the film collected $57.3 million in ticket sales this weekend. New releases include “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Smurfs,” and “Eddington, ” but none of those movies came close to touching Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ superhero success. “Superman” dipped 54% from its domestic opening weekend, an average decline for a big summer release. In two weeks, “Superman” has grossed $406.8 million worldwide, a good start for the film DC Studios is banking on to restart its movie operations. A big test looms next weekend when Walt Disney Company will release Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
D-Day veteran and TikTok star 'Papa Jake' Larson dies at 102
PARIS (AP) — D-Day veteran and social media star "Papa Jake" Larson, who survived Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944, has died at 102. Known for sharing World War II stories on TikTok, he gained 1.2 million followers late in life. Tributes have poured in from across the United States and Normandy, where he was celebrated for his role in defeating Nazi forces. Larson enlisted in the National Guard at 15 and later helped plan the Normandy invasion. He survived intense gunfire on D-Day and fought through the Battle of the Bulge. In recent years, he returned to Normandy for commemorations, honoring fallen comrades as "the lucky ones."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Eli Willits has agreed with the Washington Nationals for an $8.2 million signing bonus, only six days after the club selected him No. 1 overall in Major League Baseball’s amateur draft. The amount was the most for a selected high school player, just above Jackson Holliday’s $8.19 million with Baltimore three years ago. Willits, the youngest player picked No. 1 overall since Seattle chose Ken Griffey Jr. in 1987, will fly to Washington’s spring training complex in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday and begin to get workouts with the team’s player development staff.
England's Jess Carter reveals racial abuse at Euro 2025, FA has contacted police
ZURICH (AP) — England defender Jess Carter says she has faced racial abuse online during the Women’s European Championship. Carter shared on Instagram Sunday that the abuse began at the start of the tournament, following criticism of her performance in England’s opening loss to France. She condemned targeting someone’s race or appearance and announced a break from social media to focus on supporting her team. The Football Association has contacted UK police and is working with social media platforms to address the abuse. England faces Italy in the semifinals on Tuesday after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Sweden last week.
Ineos-Grenadiers team car hits spectator during Tour de France
LUCHON-SUPERBAGNERES, France (AP) — An Ineos-Grenadiers team car has hit a spectator during the Tour de France in the Pyrenees. TV footage showed the car knocking down the fan, who appeared to be holding a mobile phone, about 200 meters from the top of the Col de Peyresourde. The car was following riders on the steep ascent. The spectator's condition remains unknown. The race jury fined Ineos-Grenadiers sports director Oliver Cookson 5,000 Swiss francs for endangering spectators and issued a yellow card. The team apologized, calling the incident accidental and regrettable.
Parry makes the first hole-in-one at this year's British Open
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland (AP) — The British Open at Royal Portrush has had its first hole-in-one. English golfer John Parry hit an 8-iron at the 192-yard No. 13 that landed at the front of the green, took a couple of bounces and hopped straight into the cup. There were big celebrations on the tee with Parry congratulated by playing partner Justin Leonard, the 1997 Open champion. Parry says “the atmosphere was absolutely amazing.” Parry guessed it was “about” the 10th hole-in-one of his career and was “definitely the best one, 100%." Parry shot a 4-under 67 and was 3 under for the tournament.
