OKEECHOBEE — The Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma hosted a meeting on Sept. 6, featuring guest speaker Steffanie Immerfall, Teacher on Assignment for Recruitment and Retention.
Immerfall shared valuable insights on strategies for attracting and retaining quality educators in today’s dynamic educational landscape. Her presentation highlighted innovative approaches in recruiting new teachers to Okeechobee County. International recruitment has provided as many as seven international teachers for one local school and other international teachers dispersed throughout Okeechobee schools. Another avenue of recruitment, the Apprentice Teacher Program places teachers working on certification in classrooms emphasizing the importance of mentorship, collaboration and the role of professional support networks in fostering new teachers. There are also pathways to teaching for anyone with a Bachelor Degree or military veteran.
Immerfall is also involved with the Teaching CTE program at OHS and heads the Future Florida Educators of America (FFEA) Club at OHS with the hope of growing future Okeechobee County teachers.
Members of Beta Nu engaged in lively discussion following the presentation. Immerfall’s session emphasized collaboration and proactive planning as key components in building strong, sustainable educational teams. The Beta Nu Chapter continues to provide opportunities for professional growth and networking, with events like this fostering a commitment to excellence in education.
