OKEECHOBEE- Okeechobee High School Brahman football head coach BJ Pryor has announced that he will be stepping down from coaching duties at OHS.
“I will be stepping down from the head football coaching position and teacher at the end of this school year,” said Pryor. “We are truly blessed by all of the people in the Okeechobee community and will be forever grateful for our time we lived here. We will always appreciate the love support from everyone.”
Pryor says he and his wife plan to move to Wisconsin this year to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
OHS athletic director Morgan Ungerott said Pryor informed the school of his intention to resign last month.
“We thank him for his work with our students and our football program and wish him well as he pursues this new opportunity,” said Ungerott of coach Pryor.
In January the School District of Baraboo in Wisconsin announced they had hired Pryor has head coach of their football program.
Pryor was hired in Okeechobee back in 2022 and will finish his tenure as head coach with an 11-29 record. The high-water mark for the Brahman under Pryor came in 2023 when Okeechobee finished with a 6-4 record, winning their first three games by 40-plus points and shutting out their opponents.
Back in January, the Brahmans withdrew from the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and joined the Sunshine State Athletic Association (SSAA) for the 2026-27 school year. While the football team is now in the SSAA, all other athletic programs at OHS remain under the FHSAA.
The move to the SSAA will allow the Brahman football team to compete against other rural schools that are more comparable in size. The Brahmans aren’t alone either. The Glades Day Gators made the switch to the SSAA, and last year the Gators made an appearance in the SSAA 2A Championship
The Brahmans will now be looking for a new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 school year. The Okeechobee County School District has listed a position for ‘Head Football Coach’ on the districts career portal.
