OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity baseball team secured back-to-back district championships after their win over the Sebastian River Sharks on April 17.
The Brahmans defeated Sebastian River 6-0 to claim the district championship. The Sharks were the same team Okeechobee defeated last year during the district championship as well, with the Brahmans winning that game 13-3.
Okeechobee senior Carsen Williams led the Brahmans on the pitcher’s mound, striking out 14 batters in seven innings and allowing only three hits. Sophomore Levi Larson led the team with 2 RBIs. Senior Mason Kindell and junior Izaak Alanis each had an RBI, while freshman Cayson Crawford had two hits and an RBI.
The Brahmans’ trip to the championship game started back on April 15 when OHS hosted the Heritage Panthers in the district quarterfinals. Okeechobee dominated the Panthers, winning 11-1 with senior Brad Phillips, Williams, and Crawford with multiple hits and RBIs. Junior Aaron White got the start on the mound for the quarterfinal and struck out seven batters in six innings.
Okeechobee finished the regular season with a 15-6 record, up from last year’s 10-11 regular season record.
This now marks the second time in six years that the Okeechobee Brahman baseball program has won back-to-back district championships. In 2021 and 2022 the Brahmans earned district championships.
