Children's Services Council offers grants for summer activities

Posted
The Children’s Services Council of Okeechobee County has determined that it will once again ask any Okeechobee agency to write a grant to provide summer activities to the children of Okeechobee ages 18 and under.

The form is available by e-mailing Cheryl Sutton at suttonc@okee.k12.fl.us. Agencies must provide a summer program on a form. They can receive the form from the Children’s Services Council starting immediately. All summer requests must be received by Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Please either e-mail at the above address or deliver to Cheryl Sutton at the Okeechobee County Board, Room 104, on a Tuesday only. This year there is approximately $190,000 available for funding, so please be very aware that no program will receive the total funding for their program. Last year, approximately 1,200 children were served in at least one summer program.

Decisions will made for funding on Feb. 26 by a subcommittee, and recommendations will be made to the full council at its next scheduled meeting on March 14. Agencies will know if they have been funded and for what amount on Tuesday, March 19.

If you have any questions, please contact Cathleen Blair at 863-610-0176.
