May blood drives planned
OKEECHOBEE – Area residents can help save lives when the blood mobile visits Okeechobee County this month. Anyone who is over the age of 17 and in good health can donate. If you have questions about blood donation, visit a blood mobile site and talk to a medical professional there.
• Saturday, May 4, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.
• Sunday, May 5, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.
• Tuesday, May 7, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 1:30 to 7 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.
• Friday, May 10, Publix, 3551 U.S. 441, 1:30 to 7 p.m. Donors will receive a $10 Publix gift card and a Pueblo Viejo gift card.
• Tuesday, May 14, Raulerson Hospital, 1796 U.S. 441, 12:30 to 6 p.m. Donors will receive a long sleeve t-shirt and a $5 Golden Corral gift card.
• Wednesday, May 15, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 1:30 to 7 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.

• Saturday, May 18, Trading Post Flea Market, 3100 U.S. 441, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donors will receive a OneBlood t-shirt and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.
• Sunday, May 19, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.
• Monday, May 20, Walmart, 2101 S. Parrott Ave., 1:30 to 7 p.m. Donors will receive a Walmart $10 gift card and a Golden Corral $5 gift card.

Thrift shop to have sale
SEBRING — A Bountiful Barn Thrift Store, 442 U.S. 27 S., is holding a store-wide liquidation sale going on now through May 1. The store hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The store is right next to Cafe 27.

Summer Camp sign-ups set
The 2019 Sheriff’s Summer Camp sign-ups will be held on Friday, May 3, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the School Board Operations Center, 938 N.W. 34th St. (behind O.A.A.). Dates for camps are: Youth Camp, June 3-7, for ages eight to 11; and Teen Camp, June 10-14 for ages 12-15. Only a parent or legal guardian may sign up a child.

County boards to meet

The county commissioners from Hendry, Glades, Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach counties will meet at 6 p.m. on May 7 in the Okeechobee High School Lecture Hall, 2800 U.S. 441 N., to discuss Lake Okeechobee and other matters of mutual interest. The meeting will be open to the public.

Help feed families May 11
Fill a bag to help feed families on Saturday, May 11. Bag healthy nonperishable food items and place by your mailbox for your letter carrier to pick up and deliver to food banks and pantries in your community. Donate items such as pasta, cereal, oatmeal, canola oil, peanut butter and canned goods including beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, tuna in water, meat and sauce. Avoid glass containers.

Support group meeting set
The Inner Truth Project will hold a support group for survivors of sexual trauma on the second Monday of each month starting May 13 at Our Village Okeechobee, 1703 S.W. Second Ave. Adult meetings will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Teen meetings (13-18) will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Free coed support group will meet in a safe, encouraging space.
