Lucy is a Terrier mix and was being cared for by Kassandra Williams while the dog's owners visited Disney World. On Thursday, April 10 at approximately 6 p.m., Lucy and Kassandra were passengers in a car that rolled over onto its roof after it was struck by another vehicle. Kassandra said she was not sure how the accident happened. All she knew was she was upside down, supported only by a seatbelt. “I held on to Lucy for dear life!” she said. “I just wrapped my arms around her and held on.”
Lucy made it through the accident with no injuries, but when paramedics approached, she took off running. Kassandra, the driver and occupants of the other vehicle were all taken to the hospital for treatment, and Kassandra immediately began reaching out to the community through Facebook, asking for help in finding Lucy.
“Everyone was so kind and caring,” she said. "People from all over the community were looking for Lucy. Moms brought their kids after school. Couples walked the neighborhood calling her name.”
Kassandra said it took a few days, but Lucy was finally found and returned to Kassandra by a couple who called in a search dog to help look. “They wanted to be anonymous, but I can’t thank them enough,” she said.
Kassandra will return to work as a hairdresser on Wednesday, April 16. She works at the salon inside Walmart. She said she was animal sitting for a friend and, a family member put Lucy in the car. “We were just going out to grab a snack through the Popeyes drive thru and then bam!”
Lucy is back with her owner now and doing well.
