OKEECHOBEE — A local woman was charged with DUI Saturday night, Oct. 31 after her vehicle was observed sitting through several light changes in the left turn lane on U.S. 441 at the intersection with State Road 70. Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Misei Esquivel responded to a call at approximately 11:15 p.m. after a witness reportedly observed Yesenia Vasquez, 29, sit through several green lights and called law enforcement. When Deputy Esquivel arrived, she approached the vehicle and noted there were TV monitors on, and passengers were sleeping in the back seat. Vasquez reportedly had her head down. After knocking on the window several times, Deputy Esquivel was able to get the attention of Vasquez, who then rolled down the window. Vasquez was wearing a Halloween costume and make up. The deputy asked Vasquez to turn her vehicle off, and Vasquez reportedly took her foot off the brake, and the vehicle began moving forward. Deputy Esquivel helped Vasquez locate the gear shift, and Vasquez was able to put the car in park and turn off the engine.
In her report, Deputy Esquivel notes there was no odor of alcohol on Vasquez’s breath, but she was unable to perform field sobriety exercises.
Bond was set at $750.
