UPDATED: FWC investigates reported drowning

Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office July 19 incident report states that on July 19, at 6:21 a.m., a man reported a boating accident on the Kissimmee River. The report states: "Male advised that his mother fell over and he doesn’t see her. He doesn’t hear her.”

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission handled the case.  The newspaper has contacted FWC for more information and will share the report when it is released.

OCSO released the following statement late Monday morning: "On  Sunday July 19, 2026 at 6:04 a.m., the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office assisted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) with a search for a missing adult female who had been reported as part of a fishing party on the Kissimmee River.

"During the operation, the OCSO Drone Team located the missing adult female, while deputies also assisted with identifying the vessel's location during the incident. Sheriff's Office personnel remained on scene and assisted FWC with the recovery operation.
 
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
 
"The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the lead investigative agency, and any additional information regarding this incident will be released by FWC."
