In the Courts
OKEECHOBEE -- The following felony cases have either been tried in a court of law or have been settled without trial and are considered closed.
• Larry Day was sentenced to 12 days in county jail followed by four months and one day probation after pleading no contest to three counts of battery. Day was arrested in October 2019 after hitting a woman with a door and then striking her children. Originally, he was charged with aggravated battery, but the charge was reduced to battery.
• Demetrius Jackson was sentenced to three years and five months in state prison after pleading no contest to a charge of battery by a detainee. Jackson was arrested in November 2016 after he struck another inmate.
• Dora Lynn Vandiver was sentenced to two months and 15 days in county jail after pleading no contest to possession of methamphetamine. Adjudication was withheld. Vandiver was arrested February 2020 during a traffic stop.
• Allen Aldridge was sentenced to one year and one day in state prison followed by three years probation after pleading no contest to possession of a firearm by a conviced felon, possession of methadone and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Aldridge was arrested May 2020 after he went to a friend’s house, showed him a gun and told him he was tired of his wife and was going to kill her. At the time of his arrest, Aldridge told Police Officer Cody Daigneault that he had the weapon for defense and was not planning to hurt his wife.
• Tiffany Brothers was sentenced to six months in county jail followed by two years probation after pleading no contest to possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Brothers was arrested in December 2020 during a traffic stop. Arrested with her was Cory Jenkins. Jenkins was charged with possession of Hydromorphone.
• Margie Hursey was sentenced to one month in county jail after pleading no contest to possession of methamphetamine. Hursey was arrested October 2019 during a traffic stop.
• Keith Carnley was sentenced to one year and four days in county jail after pleading no contest to battery and trespass in a structure. Charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon were dropped. Carnley was arrested December 2019 after he forced his way into someone’s home and cut the homeowner with a box cutter.
• Jovon Sholtz was sentenced to one year and three months in state prison after pleading no contest to intentional child abuse. Sholtz was arrested in March 2020 after “whooping” a 5-year-old child and leaving bruises on his face.
• Scott Ward was sentenced to two days in county jail followed by one year probation after pleading no contest to DUI, fleeing or eluding and driving without a license. Ward was arrested in January 2020 after he refused to stop when a deputy attempted to pull him over for swerving across lines.
