The following felony cases have either been tried in a court of law or have been settled without trial and are considered closed.

  • Charges against Arthur Lewis were dropped in August. He was charged with sale of cocaine and possession with intent to sell.

  • Sampson Pittman was sentenced to one year and one month in state prison in August after pleading no contest to failing to report change in vehicle ownership/sexual offender. At the time of his sentence, he had already served one year and 10 days.

  • Daniel Crowe was sentenced in August to three months in county jail after pleading no contest to DUI, possession of clonazepam and possession of hydrocodone. Crowe was arrested in April 2020 during a traffic stop.
  • Daniel Salazar was sentenced in August to three years probation after pleading no contest to felony criminal mischief. Adjudication was withheld. Salazar was arrested in August 2021 at the age of 19 after throwing beer over a woman’s car and then punching her car windows. Afterwards, he followed her in his vehicle until a deputy spotted them.
  • Tavares Whitehead was sentenced to one year in County jail in November after pleading no contest to possession of cocaine. Whitehead was arrested in October 2022 by a member of the narcotics task force.
  • Christian Werner was sentenced in October to four years, seven months and eight days in state prison after pleading no contest to drug trafficking. He was arrested in July 2022 by a member of the narcotics task force.

A no contest plea does not mean the defendant admits guilt. It means he/she chooses not to fight the charges for one reason or another. The effect of the plea is virtually identical to that of a guilty plea.

Withheld adjudication generally refers to a decision by a judge to put a person on probation without an adjudication of guilt. It means an individual is not found guilty legally by the court. If the person successfully completes the terms of probation and has no subsequent offenses, no further action will be taken on the case, and the offense for which adjudication was withheld is typically not considered a prior conviction for purposes of habitual offender sentencing.
