OKEECHOBEE -- The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking information from the public in relation to the following fatal hit-and-run investigation:

At 8:22 p.m, on Sept. 28, 2026, a fatal traffic crash occurred on US Highway 441 SE in the area of SE 42nd Place in Okeechobee County.

Initial investigation indicated that an unknown vehicle was traveling in the southbound lane of US Highway 441 SE, approaching a pedestrian who was in the roadway in front of his residence. The unknown vehicle collided with the pedestrian within the southbound lane of US Highway 441 SE.

After the collision, the unknown vehicle did not remain at the scene and fled in a southern direction on US Highway 441 SE.

According to a possible independent witness, the witness heard the collision and a vehicle speeding away from the scene of the crash; however, the witness did not see the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital, in Okeechobee County, where he succumbed to injuries sustained from this crash.

Vehicle parts collected at the scene indicated a possible suspect vehicle between the model years 2014-2026, either a Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck.

The suspect vehicle would be missing the entire right-side mirror and possibly have damage to the headlight, fog light, and right side.
