Inmate throws urine at corrections officer

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — An inmate at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution was placed in disciplinary confinement after allegedly throwing a cup of urine at a corrections officer.

According to information received from a source at the FDC, the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. The corrections officer was assigned to the infirmary and was assisting the nurse on duty with her rounds when Harris reportedly threw a cup of urine at the officer, hitting him in the face and chest.

Harris is serving 47 months after pleading no contest to battery on a law enforcement officer.

That arrest took place in 2021 after multiple 911 calls about a Black man hitting a white woman. When Palm Beach County deputies located him and the woman, the arrest report states the deputy told Harris to step away from the woman, but he refused, telling the deputies to just go away. When the deputy grabbed him to get him off the woman, Harris, reportedly bit the deputy, drawing blood, and then telling the deputy that he has Aids and will make sure to give it to him. As deputies tried to restrain him, Harris continued to strike out and try to bite.

He is serving that sentence at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution.

There has been no official statement from the Department of Corrections on whether charges will be filed regarding this incident.
