OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman varsity volleyball team defeated the St Edwards Lady Pirates 3-1 on Sept. 8 at OHS.
The win means Okeechobee split their series with St Edwards this year. The Lady Pirates won their first game against the Lady Brahmans 3-2 on Aug. 27.
Freshman Azariah Washington led Okeechobee in kills in the win over St Edwards, with 17. Sophomore Olivia Bartels had 16 kills and four aces. Senior Adleigh Schwier led the team with 20 digs and senior Lindy Harwas had a team leading 24 assists.
The Lady Brahmans nearly came back to win in their first matchup against St Edwards. After the dropping the first set 25-9, Okeechobee came back to win the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-21 before the Lady Pirates secured a dramatic 26-24 win in the fourth set. Then, in the fifth set, St Edwards managed to win 15-10 to earn a victory.
Before their win against St Edwards on Sept. 8, the Lady Brahmans beat the Somerset Academy Lady Spartans 3-1 on Sept. 7. Washington and Bartels led the team in scoring in that game, with 17 and 12 respectively. Schwier had a team leading 17 digs while Harwas had 22 assists.
The Lady Brahmans close out their season with three back-to-back district games in the beginning of October. Okeechobee will host South Fork on Oct. 6, travel to face Jensen Beach on Oct. 7, and host Port St. Lucie on Oct. 8 at OHS.
