OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of a new re-entry initiative inside the Okeechobee County Jail designed to help reduce recidivism and provide a meaningful path forward for those preparing to return to our community.
Through a partnership with CareerSource Heartland, we are now offering a Job Readiness Workshop specifically tailored for incarcerated individuals who are preparing for re-entry.
This workshop provides practical, job-focused instruction on critical employment topics, including:
• Identifying transferable skills,
• Resume building,
• Understanding what employers look for in applicants,
• Matching individual skills to employer needs,
• Completing job applications correctly,
• Interview preparedness,
• How to address personal background during an interview,
• Work Opportunity Tax Credits,
• And much more.
Participants who complete this program will leave with increased confidence and practical job-search tools to help them secure employment upon release. Research consistently shows that individuals who maintain steady employment are significantly less likely to reoffend, with studies indicating up to a 16% reduction in recidivism among those who gain stable employment.
This initiative reflects our broader goal at the Okeechobee County Jail. Our mission is not simply to house individuals during incarceration, but to help break cycles and provide opportunities for a future away from incarceration. By equipping individuals with real-world skills and a clearer path to employment, we are investing in safer communities and stronger families.
This program complements the other re-entry services we provide and demonstrates our continued commitment to reducing repeat offenses through accountability, preparation, and opportunity.
We look forward to seeing participants reintegrate into our community with confidence and purpose.
