OCSO awards deputies for going above and beyond

We share our Awards and Ceremonies with our community because we know that you all are just as proud and excited to hear about these individuals as we are. Our next Award is very special and highly honorable. The Chief Deputy Award.
The Chief Deputy Award is chosen by the Chief Deputy, and is given for Extraordinary Conduct to those going above and beyond their normal duties. That is just what these men did.
As Hurricane Ian collided with the West Coast of Florida, it caused extreme damage, as the high winds, rain, and storm surge devastated entire roads, bridges, and homes. Coastal and Inland, the destruction was far reaching.
On October 1, 2022, Sheriff Stephen received a call from DeSoto County Sheriff Potter. The request was for help, especially any shallow water boats that could reach communities that had been virtually cut off from the rest of the County. They could only be reached by boat. The roads were flooded, and there were people in need of supplies.
Within two hours, Our people were in Arcadia along with their personal boats, and ready to help. They all worked tirelessly for 18 hours a day, and continued to do so for days, until the water receded enough for trucks to get through. They delivered MRE's, Water, and any other supplies needed. The quick response time no doubt kept people from dehydration, and allowed these residents some much needed relief. Having our Staff out helping communities to make it through such trying times is something we are proud to share with you. Congratulations to each of you on your well deserved Award!
Thank you Corporal Heath Hughes. Your act of service to this community was extraordinary.
