OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee Brahman varsity baseball team will be facing the top-seeded Jensen Beach Falcons in the district semifinals on May 7.

Okeechobee has struggled against Jensen this year, losing both times they faced the Falcons. On March 22 the Brahmans were shut out by Jensen 8-0, thanks in part to Falcon pitcher Dillon Moran, who allowed only one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out seven. Overall, Okeechobee only managed two hits during the game.

In their April 23 match-up Okeechobee managed to at least show some improvement against the district powerhouse, getting three hits and one run. Unfortunately, Jensen put up six runs to complete the season sweep of the Brahmans.

If it’s any solace to the Brahmans, they’re not the only team in the district that has struggled against the Falcons. In fact, after losing to Martin County early in the season, Jensen has since gone undefeated in district play this rest of the year.

Still, there is some precedent for an underdog Okeechobee team pulling off an upset against the top-seeded team in the district.

Exactly one year ago, these two teams met in the district semifinal in the very same situation. Jensen was coming in as the top seed and had previously dominated Okeechobee in the regular season, winning 10-3 and 13-1.

But the powerhouse Falcons choked in the playoffs.

Okeechobee shut out Jensen and went on to upset the Falcons with a 2-0 win.

Ultimately, anything can happen in baseball, especially in the playoffs. Okeechobee will attempt to pull off the upset for the second year in a row when they face Jensen on May 7 at 4 p.m. in South Fork.
