The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity basketball team stacked back-to-back wins against their district rival Jensen Beach and fellow Lake Okeechobee team Moore Haven on Feb. 1 and Feb. 4.

The Brahmans exacted some revenge on the Jensen Beach Falcons when they came away with the victory over the district foe. Jensen knocked Okeechobee out of the playoffs last year with a 45-44 victory last year in the district semifinals. That loss never sat well with the Brahmans, and it was clear they had the Jensen game circled on their calender from the first tip-off this season.

OHS took an early lead against the Falcons, but by halftime Jensen was able rally to within three points of the Brahmans as Okeechobee led 20-17.

Jensen hit a series of three-point shots to open the third quarter and were able to utilize some great passing to get around the Okeechobee defense. By the end of the third Jensen held their first lead of the game at 35-32.

But the Okeechobee defense tightened up in the fourth quarter, creating multiple turnovers that were then turned into points on the opposite end of the court, much to the dismay of Jensen Beach coach Jeffrey Anderson.

After a show-stopping lay-up by OHS senior Jemal Davis, Anderson threw up his hands and asked rhetorically if his team knew how to block.

Okeechobee would go on to win 50-45.

After losing their game against Evangelical Christian 68-57 on Feb. 1, the Moore Haven Terriers made the trip to the north of the lake to face Okeechobee on Feb. 4, and it didn’t take long for Okeechobee to run away with the game. By halftime the Brahmans were up 44-21.

While Moore Haven showed some life third quarter with some flashy no-look passes and great lay-ups, Okeechobee was able to close the door on the Terriers in the fourth quarter and secure the 79-43 victory.

The win brings Okeechobee’s record to 18-4 and drops Moore Haven to 3-15.

Okeechobee now moves on to face the Clewiston Tigers, who are 2-18 this year and have already lost to the Brahmans 76-23 earlier in the season. Okeechobee will make the trip to Clewiston to play the Tigers on Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Moore Haven will play their final game at home against Gulf Coast on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
