5K Fridays are still rolling in this year’s T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights competition, and Florida schools are continuing to show up in a big way.
The week of Sept. 7, four more high schools in the state were selected as $5,000 winners through the program, which gives eligible small-town high schools the chance to win funding for football field and facility upgrades — including weekly $5K Fridays prizes, regional finalist awards and a grand prize $1 million stadium transformation.
Okeechobee High School was among the four high schools to win $5,000.
This season, the contest has already awarded 22 schools in Florida with $110,000 collectively, helping to give local schools a boost as Friday night football season gets underway.
T-Mobile’s FN5GL contest is about more than football — it’s about celebrating the small-town pride, school spirit and community traditions that bring students, families, alumni and neighbors together each week. Schools are using their applications to share what an upgraded field or facility would mean for their athletes, marching bands, cheer teams, students and the broader community.
And there’s still time for more schools to get involved. Eligible high schools in towns with populations of 150,000 or fewer can continue competing for additional weekly prizes and the chance to become a finalist for the $1 million grand prize field upgrade.
