Lacy’s mission is clear: To ensure that every resident of Okeechobee County has access to safe, affordable housing.
"I believe that everyone deserves a place to call home," she shared, her passion evident. "My role is to bridge the gap between those who need help and the resources available to them."
One of her most rewarding experiences occurred recently when she had the opportunity to assist an elderly disabled woman in renovating her home. The resident had long struggled to maintain her house, lacking the funds to make necessary repairs. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Lacy sprang into action.
“I remember walking into her home and seeing the condition it was in,” Lacy recalled. “It was heartbreaking, but it also fueled my desire to help. She deserved so much more than what she had.”
With determination and compassion, Lacy helped the woman secure funding for critical renovations, including a new roof, air conditioning, and updates to the bathroom and kitchen to make them more accessible. "Seeing her smile when we completed the renovations was priceless," Lacy said, her eyes shining with emotion. "It reminded me of why I do this work."
Lacy understands the challenges that many residents face. With rising costs and limited resources, finding affordable housing can often feel like an uphill battle. “I work closely with the Florida Housing Finance Corporation and the State Housing Initiatives Partnership program to provide our community with the support they need,” she explained. “Whether it's the purchase of a home, rehabilitation and repairs, or rental assistance, I'm dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing options.”
Before taking on her current role, Lacy spent years in the banking industry, which gave her valuable insight into financial management and community development. “I wanted to take my skills and apply them to something that could create a lasting impact,” she noted. “It’s fulfilling to know that I’m making a difference in people’s lives.”
As she continues her work in Okeechobee County, Lacy remains committed to helping more residents like the elderly woman she assisted. “There are so many stories out there that need to be heard,” she said. “I hope to be a voice for those who may feel forgotten.”
